Back to the Living Room Reno

So.  It seems like an eternity ago that we did the living room renovation.  And honestly, there are still things that need to be finished, namely the ceiling, floor, and reskim the joints.  That sounds like everything, but it isn't.  We didn't want to re-finish the ceiling until the roof was replaced, and it is now.  We were able to get that done in April.

 Back to the reno...

We taped a large, heavy duty plastic tarp up during most of the demolition.  Here's a good shot of it.

We actually started by tearing off the evil paneling around the whole room.  When we got that off, we found BLACK painted drywall.  There is absolutely NO reason for this kind of thing, if you ask me!

We went from left to right, trying to maintain as much of the interior drywall as we could, to re-use it where we could.  We learned to cut the seams.  We learned Donald is way too strong.  And we learned that there were lots and lots and lots of nails used in the construction of these spaces.

Mid-wall.

A better angle for two of the three rooms.

I was trying to get the pipes out of the wall.  It was cold in there, we had the vents all closed.  Plus, this was during our first ever Polar Vortex.  Yeah, the weather sucked.

Here's a couple of shots, post wall demo, as we were patching in drywall.

So, a few more sheets of paneling to remove.  Then we can start mudding!

Ready? I'm am finally!

Ok, I found these two.  This was our first "cooked" meal in the house.  ;)  Had to share them!  It was in November sometime.  A nice salad and ham steak.

The Living Room renovation

This is just to tide you over until I get the 3 billion pics we took loaded and organized.  :)

Technical difficulties!

So, Dad told me he couldn't see any of the old post pictures.  Donald got on this morning, same thing.  I guess when I was cleaning up my phone while I was posting on Christmas, I deleted some pictures I thought I didn't need.  Well, I was wrong.  They are back now.  :)

Unpacked and partly decorated

Here it is for now!  On any given day, we may decide that something else needs to be moved around, but this is the current configuration.

Living Room-we are most likely tearing out that wall you see on the right side.  It is three small rooms, see previous posts.  It will give us about another 5 feet of length to the room, and light!  There is a window in each room, and the walls ARE NOT paneled!
Dining room

The nook in the dining room is a favorite spot.  The cabinet is the bottom of an old dry sink unit of some kind, probably a hoosier, lol!  There are shelves above, and they are filled with what I call my Grandma Glass and my Polish Property.

The door to nowhere in the dining room holds my fish tank and games for now.

The Library
The manzanilla takes up way too much room along side my other potted plants.  I'm going to plant it in May.  We aren't sure yet if the right rays get through the windows, but if the other plants survive, they will be spread out and around.

The other side of the Library.

My antique bookcase and Secretary, and Donald's Grandpa Borm's old rocker.

The is the Guest Room with the antique bedroom set that was my Dad's.

This is the spare room, that will also be my craft room.

These are the French Doors we hung the day before Thanksgiving.  They are not as tall as the opening, but we will eventually build a transom window to fit that space.  They are gorgeous!

So, that's all for now.  We may have a significant change over the next 7 days, but I will post it when it happens.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Just a picture of part of the big snow while I was in California!

Kitchen Re-organization!

While I was in California, Donald decided that the way we had things set up in the kitchen just wouldn't work for the kind of cooking we do!  So, with the addition of a shelf or two (another thing he favors), I now have a lot more counter space.  In fact, with the cooking/prep we did yesterday, we may even invest in another cutting board.

This is an island that we've had for years, that has only been used as an island in the little duplex we lived in briefly in Merriam right before we moved here.  Otherwise, it's always been just an additional counter.  He swung it around and extended the side.  Those of you familiar with my cooking process know that it would rarely be clean like this.  Usually it is covered!  ;)

This is in the corner, behind the door into the dining room/living room.  The coffee pot was here, now the microwave is and it functions so much better.
Nice little shelf above the sink lets me put a few odds and ends on it.

And the coffee pot is to the right of the sink.  I now have a lot more counter space!
